Answer: Luther emphasized individual aspect of religion, i.e faith. In contrast to Catholicism, Luther understood that faith is a psychological and individual phenomenon. Catholicism emphasized acts and viewed faith as a collective phenomenon.  Consequenty, Luther put emphasis on individual aspect of human behaviour and psychology which was something that corresponded with the spirit of renaissance and humanism.

Explanation: James Hillman says that psychotherapy was born in the northern Europe exactly because there was a spirit of protestantism. Psychotherapy recognized individual psychological differences and this respect for individual soul was present already in Luther and his followers. Influence on society was enormous....Luther´s thought went hand in hand with social changes that renaissance produced (which we have to take into consideration) and consequently led to bigger respect to individuality, individual psychology, individual grace regardless social patterns.
