Ancient Greece and Rome had very similar government systems. One of the reasons why these empires are remembered is because they strayed away from letting one individual rule. Rather, they relied on the citizens of the empire to have some control over who would run their empire.

For example, in Ancient Rome the two consuls were elected by a group of Roman citizens. These consuls were responsible for running the government and the military. In Ancient Greece, the origins of a democracy are found. In Athens, their was a system where Greek citizens got to directly vote on laws and individuals within the government. This is known as a direct democracy. This was the first of it's kind and provided a model for countries like the United States.

Answer:

B. Both avoided centralizing political power in the hands of one person.

Explanation:

This is the statement that best describes a similarity between the political systems in ancient Greece and the Roman Republic. Both systems avoided centralizing power in the hands of one person. In the case of Ancient Greece, there was no central government. Each city-state had its own type of government, with no central power. In the case of the Roman Republic, various institutions, such as the Senate, allowed government to be shared.

Why did the South think that the election of Lincoln in 1860 meant that their lives would be different?
Andreas93 [3]
When he got the nomination from the anti-slavery Republican Party in 1860, the South was very concerned. The South had made up its mind. They believed Lincoln would end slavery. However, if they would have listened closely to Lincoln, he had said if he could keep the country together by keeping slavery, he would do so.
And

For the most part, states in the South reacted with anger to Lincoln's victory in the election of 1860. The major issue of the 1860 presidential election was slavery. For Southerners, expanding slavery was the critical issue. Slavery was so pressing that the Democratic party put forth two candidates.
