George Washington did not want to accept the presidency that the people wanted to give him for fear of becoming a tyrant himself, just like King George II of England, from whom they just declared themselves independent from. When he became president, he made an example by only taking 2 terms and then refusing to continue being president. It wasn't until much later that a law was introduced to prevent any single president from serving more than 2 terms.
This website says that they lived in structures called longhouses.
-Longhouses were long rectangular homes. Longhouses were made by building a frame from saplings, or young trees. They were then covered with bark sewn together. There was a long hallway with rooms on both sides. Sleeping platforms, covered with deerskin, lined each wall. There were also shelves for storing baskets, pots, and pelts. Pelts are the skins of animals with the fur attached. Several families would live in the long house, but the families were related to each other.-

The "American dream" was influential in the development of large cities. People often migrated to cities looking for better jobs. Cities provided plenty of opportunities for workers, regardless of their origin or class. However, because of the large influx of immigrants, not all of them were able to improve their situation. Many immigrants were poor after moving to the city, which led to the development of segregated, low-income areas with high numbers of immigrants.
They just hoped that people would listen to them they never explicitly enforced anything they said.
