Answer:

Answer:

1. Atlas - Collection of maps

2. GIS  - Best tool to use to plan hurricane evacuation routes

3. Globe  - Best tool to use to compare the size of the continents

4. GPS  - Best tool to use to pinpoint your exact location

5. Mercator projection  - Areas near the poles appear larger than they are

6. Political map  - Best tool to use to locate the boundaries between countries

7. RADAR  - Used by cartographers when visibility is reduced

8. Relief map  - Colors show the earth's features

9. Topographical map  - Elevation is indicated by the distance between lines

10. Winkel Tripel projection  - Reduces distortion of distance, direction, and area

Explanation:

To complete this activity we need to understand the concepts of each of the geographical tools given

1. Atlas -  An Atlas is a collection of maps of Earth, or a region of Earth. They present geographic features, political boundaries, and often geopolitical, social, religious and economic statistics.

2. GIS  - Stands for Geographic Information System or Science, is a computer system for gathering, managing and analyzing spatial or geographic data. It can show many different kinds of data on one map, such as streets, buildings, vegetation, etc. Which allows people to see more easily, analyze and understand patterns and relationships, helping users make smarter decisions.

3. Globe  - It is a spherical model of Earth or celestial body. Globes do not distort the surface that they represent, only to scale it down, but the proportions remain faithful.

4. GPS  - stands for Global Positioning System, and is global navigation satellite system which provides geolocation and time information to a receiver anywhere on earth. The GPS provides critical positioning capabilities to anyone with a GPS receiver.

5. Mercator projection -It is a cylindrical map projection which became the standard map projection for navigation as it represents any course as a straight segment. The Mercator projection inflates the size of objects away from the equator, and shows objects far larger than they actually are as they get closer to the poles.

6. Political map  - Political maps are designed to show the boundaries of countries, states, the location of major cities. Different colours are often used to differentiate between nations.

7. RADAR - It is a detection system using radio waves to determine the range, angle and speed of objects. It's often used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, missiles, weather formations and terrain. In navigation it's often used to identify obstacles in the route when there is low visibility.

8. Relief map - It is a three-dimensional representation usually of terrain. The layers of the terrain are overlaid with a color map to make it more realistic

9. Topographical map  - Is a map that shows in large scale a representation of relief, using contour lines. A contour line is a line connecting places of equal elevation.

10. Winkel Tripel projection  - It is a map projection of the world which minimizes three kinds of distortion: area, direction and distance. The equator and the poles are straight lines, while all other parallels are curved.

How does ocean currents affect the climate of a continent?
Aleks [24]
The world’s ocean is crucial to heating the planet. While land areas and the atmosphere absorb some sunlight, the majority of the sun’s radiation is absorbed by the ocean. Particularly in the tropical waters around the equator, the ocean acts a as massive, heat-retaining solar panel. Earth’s atmosphere also plays a part in this process, helping to retain heat that would otherwise quickly radiate into space after sunset.
The ocean doesn't just store solar radiation; it also helps to distribute heat around the globe. When water molecules are heated, they exchange freely with the air in a process called evaporation. Ocean water is constantly evaporating, increasing the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air to form rain and storms that are then carried by trade winds, often vast distances. In fact, almost all rain that falls on land starts off in the ocean. The tropics are particularly rainy because heat absorption, and thus ocean evaporation, is highest in this area. Outside of Earth’s equatorial areas, weather patterns are driven largely by ocean currents. Currents are movements of ocean water in a continuous flow, created largely by surface winds but also partly by temperature and salinity gradients, Earth’s rotation, and tides (the gravitational effects of the sun and moon). Major current systems typically flow clockwise in the northern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere, in circular patterns that often trace the coastlines. Ocean currents act much like a conveyer belt, transporting warm water and precipitation from the equator toward the poles and cold water from the poles back to the tropics. Thus, currents regulate global climate, helping to counteract the uneven distribution of solar radiation reaching Earth’s surface. Without currents, regional temperatures would be more extreme—super hot at the equator and frigid toward the poles—and much less of Earth’s land would be habitable.
