What does John say that he wants instead of comfort? What right does Mond suggest that he is claiming?
mezya [45]

Answer:

John demanded " I don’t want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin".

Mustapha Mond suggests he's claiming "the right to be unhappy".

Explanation:

Aldoux Huxley's Brave New World is set in a dystopian world where the off-springs of the people were genetically engineered and already classed into their predestined castes from birth. The setting of the story is in the year 2540 AD, and deals with the theme of science and efficiency, away from humanistic emotions and feelings.

In chapter 17, John, the son of Linda and the Director of the Hatchery and Bernard Marx along with Helmholtz Watson are exiled for causing a scandal in the society. When told about how everything has been engineered to be comfortable for the people, John demands that he did not "want comfort [but rather] God, poetry, real danger, freedom, goodness [and] sin".

At this, Mustapha Mond, the "Resident World Controller for Western Europe" suggests that John is claiming "the right to be unhappy", for everything that he's just demanded is against the way of their scientifically engineered world. And with his demand, he's claiming all the ills of human life that the "New World" is offering.
