(13 - b) / 6 = (2 - 0.5b) / 4
cross multiply
6(2 - 0.5b) = 4(13 - b)
12 - 3b = 52 - 4b
-3b + 4b = 52 - 12
b = 40 <==
====================
(x - 9) / 3 = 5/13
cross multiply
13(x - 9) = 3 * 5
13x - 117 = 15
13x = 15 + 117
13x = 132
x = 132/13
===================
(w + 14) / (4w + 6) = 3/4
cross multiply
3(4w + 6) = 4(w + 14)
12w + 18 = 4w + 56
12w - 4w = 56 - 18
8w = 38
w = 38/8 which reduces to 19/4
=====================
(x - 8) / 5 = 2/4
cross multiply
4(x - 8) = 2 * 5
4x - 32 = 10
4x = 10 + 32
4x = 42
x = 42/4 which reduces to 21/2

sorry but I am not exactly sure how to " explain " my answers
