Several circumstances cause students to drop out of higher education. These are often a plethora of individual issues or triggered by certain economic and psychological problems. One of the most important problems that occur when students sign up for university, the cost of higher education is much higher and becomes unaffordable for a number of reasons.

Further Explanation:

Many students are forced to sign up for student loans; however, they are often deterred by the heavy interest rates, as most of them feel that they will be unable to pay it back. Students also might find the pressure of coursework in colleges and universities very difficult to keep up with, leading to poor mental health, depression and consequently dropping out. Many students also consider it viable to go for jobs instead of taking up higher education, as it shall ensure a steady flow of income, and allow them to support their families.

The constant increasing rates of students to drop out of universities have made it difficult to ensure that education reaches all levels of society. However, the huge economic burden placed on students and their families prevents them from having an affordable, accessible education, making it only a privilege of the elite classes. The university management should provide suitable economic opportunities to the students of low-income groups, so that they are able to provide for their education in an affordable way, and does not consider dropping out. The university management should also hold regular counselling sessions, where students can discuss their mental health openly without any trace of stigma.
