Which choice best explains what caused Lee to hurry back home immediately?
slava [35]

Answer:

Lee had no time to argue with Goll. He was too concerned about the safety of his family, so he hurried back to them almost immediately. He got there just in time to see the fire taking hold of his neighbor's shed and fence, while the breeze blew a rain fire on his property.

Which type of sentence is this? As Jim sat down on the rickety old chair, it abruptly collapsed beneath him.
lukranit [14]

Answer:

Complex sentence.

Explanation:

A complex sentence contains one independent clause and one or more dependant clauses.

An independent clause can stand on its own. The information in it makes sense and does not need extra information to understand its meaning.

A dependant clause can not stand on its own. If we read a dependant clause alone, some information is missing, and we cannot fully understand the meaning of this clause.

In this case, the independent clause is -It abruptly collapsed beneath him- and the dependant clause is - As Jim sat down on the rickety old chair-. We can see that the dependant clause is missing information and that it contains the word as, which is a subordinating conjunction that links the clauses and is present in dependant clauses.

In passage 1, what does the phrase "dressed as though we had all week to get to school" mean?
alina1380 [7]
Dressed here is a verb. It’s the action of getting dressed. Here they are saying that they got dressed as though they had all week to get to school. Another way of saying that is that they “had all the time in the world.” This means they took their sweet time getting dressed, didn’t rush, and maybe even took too long. Basically it means that they got dressed very slowly, as if they weren’t in any rush to get to school.
