The English and French.
The English still control Canada today, with Canadians viewing Queen Elizabeth as their leader (alongside Justin Trudeau). The French obviously don't control Canada today, but they left a huge impact on the nation. Quebec and Montreal are two French-speaking provinces and French is an official language of Canada.
Accessibility to resources, its hunger for power, the competition between it and others, and great trade relations.
