Read this passage from Steinbeck's "The Chrysanthemums": There was a little square sandy bed kept for rooting the chrysanthemums

. With her trowel she turned the soil over and over, and smoothed it and patted it firm. Then she dug ten parallel trenches to receive the sets. Back at the chrysanthemum bed she pulled out the little crisp shoots, trimmed off the leaves of each one with her scissors and laid it on a small orderly pile. What does the appearance of the garden reveal about Elisa's character? A. Elisa is upset that the flower-growing season is coming to an end. B. Elisa is tired of growing chrysanthemums and wants to try something new. C. Elisa is angry about the fact that Henry won't let her have a bigger garden. D. Elisa takes great care of the things she loves, like her garden.

What is the denotative meaning of fault lines in this excerpt? lines that are drawn when placing blame areas of defense in times
Sauron [17]
Well, denotative meaning refers to the literal meaning of a word. So, I guess the correct answer would be long cracks in the surface of the earth, because that is the definition of the word fault lines. The other options are too metaphorical, and would thus be considered to be a connotative, rather than denotative meaning.

Through her reflections, the character of the author emerges. What are two of her significant fraits? Identify details from the
SVEN [57.7K]

Answer:

Two of her character traits are:

 1. She has a strong interest in nature;
 2. She possesses the ability to deeply think about her environment, drawing inferences from them as they relate to human nature.

A. To buttress point 1, in paragraph 4 and 5 of Part II, Annie describes her venture into the woods of the suburbia close to her residence. The second sentence of paragraph 5 depicts that this is a habit. She states

"Then I cut down through the woods to the mossy fallen tree where I sit."

B. In paragraph 4 of part III, we see how she describes the kind of connection she thinks she shares with the Weasel:

"He disappeared. This was only last week, and already I don't remember what shattered the enchantment. I think I blinked, I think I retrieved my brain from the weasel's brain, and tried to memorize what I was seeing, and the weasel felt the yank of separation, the careening splashdown into real life and the urgent current of instinct"

In the excerpt above, she thinks she practically shared cerebral connections with the Weasel, so much so that her own thoughts distracted the animal.

Cheers!
