Handwashing is part of hygiene  

Hygiene are those practices and conditions that promote and preserve health, particularly through cleanliness. Hygiene includes hand-washing, cloth changing, bathing and cutting of hair or nails. Hand washing is an important part of hygiene that involves cleaning of hands in order to remove dirt, soil or microorganisms that may cause diseases. Water and soap is usually used in washing hands.
