People of South America and of the Inca empire grew potatoes about hundreds of years ago. English pioneers introduced potatoes in Europe around the mid-1500s. Europeans used the potatoes for non-food purposes.
Spaniards had a vast empire across Europe hence, they took potatoes for their soldiers. During the course of time, farmers became aware of the crop and started its cultivation. Potato then became a common staple crop to be grown in the land of England, Scotland and Ireland.
During WW2 about 350,000 women had joined the military with many having medical roles as nurses and many also helped to drive trucks to transport certain supplies or munitions to the front.
