What is true about the heterozygous sickle-cell (HbA HbS) condition?

Biology

Answer:

sickle-cell anemia is not expressed

Explanation:

The heterozygote conditions shows that, the manifestation of theses condition is only possible if the carrier man(HbSHbA) get married to another heterozygote woman,( another carrier) so that the two recessive alleles are expressed as SS.

But as AS, this is not possible because of the non defective A-allele which is always  dominant over the S

Which of the following are thought to be most closely related to humans?
Oxana [17]

The correct answer is: sea stars

All animals listed above are invertebrates. One of the characteristic of invertebrates are that they are protostomes with the exception of Echinodermata (sea stars). The difference between protostomes and deuterostomes is in their embryonic development (orgin of mouth and anus).

In protostomes the mouth forms first: the oral end of the animal develops from the first developmental opening. On the other hand in deuterostomes the first opening (the blastopore) becomes the anus, and the oral end of the develops from the second opening.

Humans are also deuterostomes.

Suppose two independently assorting genes are involved in the pathway that determines fruit color in squash. These genes interac
Vaselesa [24]

Answer:

120 white individuals

30 yellow individuals

10 green individuals

Explanation:

Available data:

  • Dominant epistasis: Phenotypic frequencies 12:3:1
  • W allele codes for a dominant white phenotype
  • w allele codes for a colored squash
  • Y allele codes for a dominant yellow phenotype
  • y allele codes for a recessive green phenotype
  • W allele will always mask the phenotype produced by Y or y alleles
  • 160 offspring

White phenotype: 12/16 = 120 individuals

Yellow phenotype: 3/16 = 30 individuals

Green Phenotype: 1/16 = 10 individuals

To know how many offspring are expected to have the white, yellow, and green phenotypes, you can perform a three simple rule. This is:

16 ------- 160 offspring

12 White ------- X = 120 offspring

3 Yellow ------- X= 30 offspring

1 Green --------X = 10 offspring

Most amines are ________, meaning they dissolve in water and therefore cannot cross the cell membrane. The ________ hormones are
Doss [256]

Answer: 1. Lipophobic

              2.Thyroid

              3.lipophilic

Explanation:

Chemical messengers can be classified by their chemical characteristics including their solubility in water and their chemical structure.

Depending on their solubility in water they can be classified in two groups:

  • Hydrophobic (lipophilic) - Molecules are lipid soluble and can easily cross the plasma membrane.

  • Hydrophilic (lipophobic) - Molecules that are water soluble and do not readily cross the plasma membrane.

Depending on the chemical structure

Amino Acids are lipophobic.

Amines are derived from amino acids and contain an amine group (-NH2, known as the amino group). An important group of these are the catecholamines which contain a 6 carbon ring (catechol) and are derived from tyrosine. These include dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. The thyroid hormone is derived from tyrosine.  All except thyroid hormones are hydrophilic. The thyroid hormone is lipophilic (hidrophobic)

Some present-day bacteria use a system of anaerobic respiration characterized by an electron transport chain analogous to that f
geniusboy [140]

Answer:

The correct answer would be:

Neither of these response options accurately features the anaerobic electron transport chain.

Explanation:

The anaerobic respiration system vibrated by an electron transport chain is a mechanism that anaerobic bacteria have to maintain their respiration.

This mechanism does not require oxygen in the atmosphere, that is why it is said to be an anaerobic mechanism.

Bacteria do not all need oxygen in the environment to live, some need that oxygen is not exactly present (strict anaerobes) or that it is at low partial pressures (facultative anaerobes).

This mechanism is very characteristic in its location since it is located in the inner membrane of the mitochondria, that is why it will decide to indicate that option as the correct one.
