On average, around the world, about 16 million girls between the ages of six and 11 will never set foot in a school; Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and the Arab countries are the regions with the highest gender disparity rates.
About 16 million girls between the ages of six and 11 will never have a chance to learn to read and write in primary school. The number is twice the number of boys who will be deprived of formal education, but on a much smaller scale than the female audience. In regions such as West and South Asia, the already alarming proportion of 50% rises to 80%. From this we can conclude that female literacy rates are generally lower in India and some other South Asian countries because women may have less access to education.
