The French Directory was a committee made up of five members that ruled France between November 2, 1795 and November 9, 1799. The Directory's rule ended when it was overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte in the Coup of 18 Brumaire. The Directory was then replaced by the French Consulate. The Directory was successful in subduing the Jacobin Reign of Terror. However, under its rule, France was constantly at war with its foreign neighbors. Moreover, the French economy was in a continuous crisis during these years.
