The Potsdam Declaration was the Allied powers last ditch effort to get Japan to surrender before pursuing further military attacks. Since the Japanese refused to agree to the terms outlined in the Potsdam Declaration, US President Harry Truman felt he had no choice but to use the atomic bomb on Japan. Only a short couple weeks after Japan refused to follow the conditions of the Potsdam Declaration, Truman ordered the bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
