While 70% of the world is covered with water only 2.5 % of it is fresh. The rest of the water is salty water.Just 1% of our fresh water is easy to get with much of it trapped in glaciers and snowfields
It would be better to be an R-selected species because they tend to reproduce faster then other animals. This means that if the water is limited then these r-selected species will have many offspring that can continue the breed and genes of the species.
