Get y by itself so add 5x to both sides. It would equal 3y=5x+8. Divide both sides by 3 and you get y=5/3x+8/3. Then for the other get y by itself. Subtract 9 from both sides so you get -10y=x-9. Divide both sides by -10 which would equal y=-1/10x+9. I hope that's what you were meaning :)
