The Prologue to the Pardoner's tale shows the true nature of the pardoner, who was willing to do anything to get whatever he wants. He did not shy away from telling what he expects and wants from them, nor does he hide his 'illegal' activities to get money. The true nature of the pardoner can be seen when he said in line 119 "<em>There is no apostle I would counterfeit</em>" (<em>I wol non of the apostles counterfete</em>). In it, he openly proclaims and justifies his act of living a life of avarice and not like the apostles who lived a life of holiness.
