In the world of birds, usually males are more colorful or ornamented than females. The explanation for this is sexual selection (traits that help one gender to be successful). This phenomenon, allows to males to compete with other males. For example, more colorful males might seem more dangerously. On the other hand, ornaments and colors of male birds can attract the attention of females.

The surge in luteinizing hormone that occurs during the middle of the ovarian cycle triggers
avanturin [10]

Ovulation

Explanation:

In women, luteinizing hormone carries out different roles in the two halves of the menstrual cycle

 • In week one to two of the cycle, luteinizing hormone is required to stimulate the ovarian follicles in the ovary to produce the female sex hormone, oestradiol
 • Around day 14 of the cycle, a surge in luteinizing hormone levels causes the ovarian follicle to tear and release a mature oocyte (egg) from the ovary, a process called ovulation
 • For the remainder of the cycle (weeks three to four), the remnants of the ovarian follicle forms a corpus luteum
 • Luteinizing hormone stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone, which is required to support the early stages of pregnancy, if fertilization occurs

Nostrana [21]

Answer:

The correct answer is - C. Photoautotrophs.

Explanation:

Photoautotrophs are autotrophs or organisms that are able to obtain their food by using photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process in which sunlight trapped by the organism and converts to inorganic material such as CO2 and H2O to organic material which is glucose or sugar molecules.

In termite's guts, various types of diverse ways of getting their nutritional needs are found according to the microbes are Chemotrophs, Heterotrophs, parasites, and decomposers.

Match the animals with their characteristics.
anygoal [31]

Answer:

Earthworm - have a coelom and a closed circulatory system.

Scallops or clams - has a mantle and an open circulatory system.

Starfish - has an endoskeleton made of calcium-rich plates.

Spider - exhibits the phenomenon of molting.

Explanation:

Earthworm belongs to Phylum Annelida. They are metamerically segmented, triploblastic and bilaterally symmetrical. They have a closed circulatory system and a coelom (true body cavity).

Scallops or clams belong to Phylum Mollusca, the second largest animal phylum. They are coelomate, triploblastic, bilaterally symmetrical organisms having an open circulatory system. They have a calcareous shell covered body with a distinct head, muscular foot, visceral hump and a mantle (soft and spongy layer of skin) over the hump.

Starfish belongs to Phylum Echinodermata, which consists of exclusively free-living marine organisms. They have an endoskeleton made up of calcium carbonate structures. They are coelomate, triploblastic and have a water vascular system that is used for respiration, locomotion, food capture and transport.

Spiders belong to Phylum Arthropoda. They have chitinous covered segmented bodies, jointed legs and exoskeletons (hard external shells). Arthropods periodically shed their exoskeletons or shells in order to grow, this process is called molting. They are coelomate, triploblastic, bilaterally symmetrical organisms having an open circulatory system.

- ——-

Biology, simply defined, is the study of living organisms and the processes that make life possible. The Department of Biology is host to outstanding research programs in various fields across the spectrum of modern biology. To address the breadth and depth essential to educating biologists, the biology major is structured to include both a broad foundation through core courses and opportunity for specialization within a biological subfield through biology electives.

While the major is designed to prepare the student for a post-baccalaureate profession in biology, for advanced professional training in the health sciences, or for graduate study in basic and applied areas of the biological sciences, biology majors can and do work in a wide variety occupational professions. The Department of Biology offers research opportunities, training, and instruction at all levels, undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral.

What skills does studying biology develop?

generate original ideas and solve problems - conduct research and interpret data using laboratory instrumentation

gather information, conduct research and laboratory experimentation

analyze and evaluate data, write and present reports

calculate, compute and apply formulas

collaborate with fellow biologists and other scientists

understand the building blocks of the systems of life

understand the behavior of the environment

Career Opportunities

Biology provides an excellent foundation for careers in a variety of professions and occupations in the areas of molecular and cellular biology, physiology, industrial microbiology and biotechnology, human genetics, forensic science, health education, plant pathology, oceanography, herpetology, animal behavior, ecology, environmental studies, entomology, parasitology, botany, mammalogy and postgraduate education. Occupations include but are not limited to the following:
