The abdominal cavity is a large cavity found in the mammalian torso between the thoracic cavity, from which it is separated by the thoracic diaphragm, and the pelvic cavity. The abdominopelvic cavity has been divided into nine different areas, where each organ does not necessarily occupy only one of the quadrants. This division helps in diagnosing illnesses based on where the person is experiencing abdominal pain.
