The frequency of recessive deleterious allele q is 0.09 in a population of fruit flies. You examine many individuals over many g

enerations and measure that the mutation rate of (p) to (q) is 0.0003. What would the strength of selection against the q allele need to be for the frequency of q=0.06 to be maintained by selection-mutation balance?

What would happen if another substance competed for the enzyme active site?
Lelu [443]
That's what is called competitive enzymatic regulation. If there are more of that substance than the enzyme substrate, then most of the enzyme, if not all depending on the substance's concentration, will be inhibited on its action. If there are more substrate then the competitive substance, the expected reaction for that enzyme will happen at an expected rate. If the ratio substrate:substance is 1:1 then the reaction enzyme-substrate is very slowed down.

In order for a sedimentary rock (made of particles) to form, what must occur?
wolverine [178]
First, preexisting rocks must weather/erode, forming the sediment that will eventually form the sedimentary rock. Then, that sediment must settle someplace, and over a long period of time, pressure begins to build. This causes the sediments to become compacted. After a long period of time (and a lot of pressure), the sediments cement together and form a sedimentary rock. In a nutshell, sedimentary rocks form through compaction, cementation, and eventually... lithification.
