Read the passage from “A Chip of Glass Ruby,” which describes Bamjee’s perspective of his wife and her support of native African

s. This was not a thing other Indian women would have in their homes, he thought bitterly; but then his wife was not like other people, in a way he could not put his finger on, except to say what it was not: not scandalous, not punishable, not rebellious. It was, like the attraction that had led him to marry her, Pahad’s widow with five children, something he could not see clearly. How does the information in this passage help characterize the relationship between Bamjee and his wife?

Answer: The information in the passage helps the reader understand the relationship between Bamjee and his wife by comparing his wife's personality to other women's. He describes how unique she is and how lucky he feels to have married her, besides how opposite they may be to each other.

Explanation: The character makes a description of his wife, which makes the reader understand that they have a strong and supportive relationship. He acknowledges the fact that he doesn't like the direction she is going, however, "Mr. Bamjee's" also describes every characteristic he loves about her, such as not being scandalous, punishable, nor rebellious, unlike other women. He also admires how committed she is to risk her life to defend equality. All of these words transmit how glad he is to have married her, besides being complete opposites.

Answer:

D. helps us see the scene as autumnal.

Explanation:

 • In the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, the poet opens his poem with the line 'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood'. It helps the readers to understand that the poet stands at a crossroad where two roads diverge to two different paths.
 • The poet illustrates the wood as 'yellow' to signify that the leaves of the trees are worn out and almost on the verge of falling down. It helps us to see the scene as autumnal.
