Well, I know that back then, girls were not allowed to act on stage. They were people who simply helped in the background, with costumes and makeup. Young boys played the roles of women in plays at that time.
Hope this helps!

Shakespeare`s sister couldn`t get training in acting because at that time women couldn't be actors so that men played women's parts.

The Western tradition of theatre originated in ancient Greece and Rome. Greek culture placed women in an inferior position as compare to men, so womens' role in society was very restricted in many ways. For instance, they were not allowed to be on the stage because it was considered "dangerous." Consequently, men played male characters as well as female characters.

Furthermore, women were forbidden, by law, to perform in the Elizabethan theatre, therefore there were no actresses at the Globe Theatre.

The reason why Esperanza focused on the idea of having two names in the story is due to the fact that she wishes she had a different name than Esperanza.

Why does Esperanza hate her name?

She hated the fact that she was named after her grandmother. According to her, she did not want to inherit the way her grandma used to sit by the window.

According to her, she wants a name that would be an expression of her own true self.

"that man appears foolish and stupid to others" if he seems indifferent or unaware, "that man is brutal and unforgiving" if the alien saw brutality among men, "that man is dignified, if insignificant" if man appears autonomous.
