We have our differences, but Thoreau is under the impression there are some things we all have alike. The tone is rather formal, which sets up the theme of the piece quite well. Lastly, the rhetorical strategy used must be logos, since Thoreau is basing his argument off of human stimuli rather than emotions or credibility itself.
