1st equation:
y = 2x -3
slope = 2
y-intercept = -3

2nd equation:
y = -2x + 5
slope = -2
y-intercept = 5

In the image:
/ line is your 1st equation
\ line is your 2nd equation

Solution is where the line intersects:
(2, 1)

Answer: A

Proof: Let's plug in the solution and make sure it's right

1st equation:
y = 2x - 3
1 = 2(2) - 3
1 = 4 - 3
1 = 1
True

2nd equation:
y = -2x + 5
1 = -2(2) + 5
1 = -4 + 5
1 = 1
True

Remark

The easiest way to do a question like this (especially if you don't have a graphing calculator) is to go to a site like Desmos. Feed your two equations in and it will show you what the graph looks like.

The red line is y = 2x - 3

The blue line is y = -2x + 5

You can make the xy axis just the way it is shown in this graph. The solution is (2,1) [just reading from the graph].

Answer: A

Your mom's new car gets 32 miles per gallon and gasoline costs $1.99 per gallon. You are going to see Uncle buck for Christmas,
Mashcka [7]

The gas cost will be $19.53 for this trip.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Distance covered by car per gallon = 32 miles

Cost of one gallon = $1.99

Unit rate in terms of miles;

32 miles = $1.99

1 mile = \frac{1.99}{32}\ Dollars

Therefore,

314 miles = Unit rate of mile * 314 miles

314 miles = \frac{1.99}{32}*314

314\ miles = \frac{624.86}{32}\\\\314\ miles=\$19.526

Rounding off to nearest hundredth;

314 miles = $19.53

The gas cost will be $19.53 for this trip.

What is the solution to this equation?
Aleks04 [339]

b) -4

- 8x +4 =36

First, we subtract 4 from 36 to get 32

36-4=32

-8x=32

Since a negative times a negative equals a positive, then the answer has to be negative because 36 is positive.

32 divided by 8 = 4

B) -4
