President Lyndon B Johnson's "Great Society" programs were meant to help solve the social ills of the United States. With these government programs Johnson targeted healthcare for poor and elderly citizens, the availability of pre-school/other educational opportunities for kids from lower income families, and many other issues.
Medicare still exists and is used in the US today, as millions of elderly citizens rely on this to combat the medical costs they encounter.
