The author is clearly not a fan of pesticides. This is shown by her word choice. For example, she calls the use of chemical pestides unfortunate and calls them "weapons". She continues to say they have caused horrific damage to the ecosystem. All of the words, like unfortunately, weapons, and horrific help lead the reader to believe that the author does not like the use of pesticides against insects.

RSB [31]

Answer:

Who is Rosemary and why is she important?

How does the story end? Do Jonas and Gabriel die? Do they make it to a place called “Elsewhere”?

Revisit your Cornell Notes on utopias and dystopias. Is Jonas’s community more of a utopia or a dystopia? Please provide at least two reasons for your choices with examples from the story and article.

Explanation

Rosemary is the Receiver of Memory who was released and failed.

Jonas and Gabe do not die and they make it to Elsewhere.

It is a dystopia because they "release" anyone who is different and keep important memories from the people.

Hope this helps! :)

densk [106]

Annie´s parents seem to be sad and cheery at the same time and it could be said that she acts the same way; however, she may be relieved of her departure. At one point, her mother suggests she get married after going away; the idea that Annie refuses immediately.

What is her tone in the passage? whats words convey that attitude?

Answer:

Annie's tone in this passage is a stubborn one. The word that most conveys this tone is "refuses".

Explanation:

The tone of a text or a character, refers to the ability of the text or character to convey a type of emotion. In the case of the above excerpt, Annie is obstinate with her mother's suggestion that she marry. Annie does not wish to marry and therefore declines the proposal immediately. This conveys a feeling of obstinacy, stubbornness and firmness, which is the tone that Annie conveys to the reader.
