The rural communities did not make the America's industry grow. It is not that they weren't need or important, they just did not have a direct connection with it. Transportation surely did, since it allowed goods to get further at a much faster rate. The embargo act helped quite a bit as well.

The Embargo Act of 1807 were legal measures taken by the United States of America, known as the Embargo Act, from the series issued during the years 1806-1808 and which sought to restrict foreign trade on the American coast.

Some apache did make make hogans but they also used tipis. Apaches live a more mobile life style so other types of houses were more useful.
