The correct answer is A) The high cost of enforcing it.

Prohibition refers to a period in American history when the sale, distribution, and manufacturing of alcohol was illegal. During this time, many businessmen saw an opportunity to make money illegaly by continuing to sell alcohol to citizens who still desired to drink. This resulted in the development of organized crimes and gangs, ultimately increase the rate of violent crimes and homicides during this period. Along with this, hundreds of thousands of people were arrested or detained due to their activity with alcohol. This made it increasingly difficult and expensive for law enforcement agents to keep up with prohibition.

A major reason for ending Prohibition was the high cost of enforcing it. (A)

Further Explanations:

In the 1900s United States, many reforms and changes in the society took place. One of them was the implementation of Prohibition act that illegalized the national wide sale and manufacturing of alcohol. Many scholars of that era believed that alcohol was the reason behind the major societal issues. Some defenders of Prohibition approved it on ethical grounds as they witnessed extreme drinking as unethical behavior. If alcohol was illegalized, this would raise the capital which men spent on purchasing alcohol. The 21st Amendment stated that law should be formed into affluence for unrelenting men and not for making liquor.

Though banning Alcohol production was societal steps but soon lost its importance. Many production companies of alcohol were shut down and resulted in decreases in revenue owned by the government. Sudden banning also created havoc in the society and people started producing alcohol illegally. A national-wide repel started against the prohibition and soon it ended the implementation of prohibition.
