The wealth and status that the aristocracy held during the Byzantine society stemmed from the land ownership.The system of Aristocracy of the Byzantine society was inherited from the Roman Empire. The Byzantine empire  existed in the middle ages and its capital was Constantinople.

The aristocracy refers to the highest class in a society which usually involves people of noble birth which hold hereditary titles and offices.

Both of them fought for the rights of people. They only differ in their focus.
