The articles of confederation formed the basis on how a government ( federal government ) should operate and what duties and privileges the Government should have or assign to different levels of the government.

The Federal government of the united need a constitution on how various components making up the government should operate and the articles was needed to define the various rules each component of the government should play in the smooth runing of the Government.

The Articles of Confederation set up a foundation for how we wanted our government to run. They are pretty much a basis, something for the government to grow off of and expand from.
