the story takes place entirely aboard an Emergency Dispatch Ship (EDS) headed for the frontier planet Woden with a load of desperately needed medical supplies. The pilot, Barton, discovers a stowaway: an eighteen-year-old girl. By law, all EDS stowaways are to be jettisoned because EDS vessels carry no more fuel than is absolutely necessary to land safely at their destination. The girl, Marilyn, merely wants to see her brother, Gerry, and was not aware of the law. When boarding the EDS, Marilyn saw the "UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL KEEP OUT!" sign, but thought she would at most have to pay a fine if she were caught. Barton explains that her presence dooms the mission by exceeding the weight limit, and the subsequent crash would kill both of them and doom the colonists awaiting the medical supplies. After contacting her brother for the last moments of her life, Marilyn willingly walks into the airlock and is ejected into space. The story, first published in the August 1954 issue of Astounding, has been widely anthologized and dramatized.

Complete question:

Read the passage from "Veterans Appreciate Our Gratitude, But What They Need Most Is Our Help."

After the trumpet was sounded and the flag folded, a member of the honor guard knelt in front of my frail, aging mother, looked her directly in the eye and in a soft voice, thanked her--and my father--for his service. It was beautiful, and touching, and I was thankful for the recognition of a life well-lived.

Which best identifies the connotative definition of the highlighted word?

The words trumpet, honor, and guard create a tone of ferocity.

The words frail, aging, and soft create a sense of weakness.

The words trumpet, honor, and knelt create a tone of respect.

The words mother, honor, and service create a tone of patriotism.

Answer:

The words trumpet, honor, and knelt create a tone of respect , best identifies the connotative definition of the highlighted word

Explanation:

An approximate 13-17% of homeless people in the U.S. are old people. Regardless of how you measure this number, the Department of Veterans Affairs accepts more than its percentage of 7-9.5% of the adult population as a whole.

The honour guard kneeled down in front of his frigid, old mother, looking straight in the eye and with a soft voice, gratefully, and thanks him-my father-for his service when the trumpet made it sound and the flag blinked.

The trumpet, honor and knotting words build a sense of reverence.

Answer:

The answer is; It emphasizes the dreamlike world of the speakers imagination.

Explanation:

Process of elimination first- The looking down from a tree answer just doesn't make any sense, and although the other sometimes speaks in present tense or of things going to happen, it doesn't mean he can see the future. He talks in a very creative way to spark the readers own imagination. Also the title, called "Foreign Lands" helps one come to the conclusion of in terms of how hes speaking, hes describing a new place.
