In an annual report to investors, an investment firm claims that the share price of one of their bond funds had very little vari

ability. The report shows the average price as $18.00 with a variance of 0.11. One of the investors wants to investigate this claim. He takes a random sample of the share prices for 10 days throughout the last year and finds that the standard deviation of the share price is 0.1448. Can the investor conclude that the variance of the share price of the bond fund is different than claimed at α=0.1? Assume the population is normally distributed.
State the null and alternative hypotheses. Round to four decimal places when necessary.

The length of a rectangle is 1 yard more than twice the width. The perimeter is 218 yards. What is the length and the width?
dlinn [17]

The length and the width of the given rectangle are 73 yards and 36 yards.

It is given that the length of a rectangle is 1 yard more than twice the width.

The perimeter of the rectangle is 218 yards.

We are to find the length and width of the given rectangle.

What is rectangle?

A rectangle is a quadrilateral with four right angles.

The area of a rectangle is given by:

    Length x width

The perimeter of a rectangle is given by:

= Length + Length + width + width

= 2 ( length + width ).

The length of a rectangle is 1 yard more than twice the width.

we can write this as:

Length = 1 yard  + 2 width -------------------(1)

The perimeter is 218 yards.

We can write it as:

2 ( length + width ) = 218 yards ---------------(2)

Substituting (1) in (2).

we get,

2 ( 1 yard  + 2 width + width ) = 218 yards

2 ( 1 yard + 3 width ) = 218 yards

2 x 1 yards + 2 x 3 width = 218 yards

2 yards + 6 width = 218 yards

6 width = 218 yards - 2 yards

6 width = 216 yards

Width = 216 / 6 yards

Width = 36 yards ------------------------(3)

Putting (3) in (1) we get,

Length = 1 yard  + 2 width

Length = 1 yard  + 2 x 36 yards

Length = 1 yard  + 72 yards

Length = 73 yards

Thus, the length and the width of the given rectangle are 73 yards and 36 yards.

What is the numerical coefficient of the a^8*b^2 term in the expansion of ((1/3)a^2 - 3b)^6 ?
zhuklara [117]

In the binomial development, the main problem is calculation of binomial coefficients.

If we want to get term a∧8*b∧2 we see that this is the third member in binomial development (n 2) a∧n-2*b∧2

The given binomial is ((1/3)a∧2 - 3b)∧6, the first element is (1/3)a∧2, the second element is (-3b) and n=6 when we replace this in the formula we get

(6 2) * ((1/3)a∧2)∧(6-2) * (-3b)2 = (6*5)/2 * ((1/3)a∧2)∧4 *9b∧2= 15*(1/81)*9 *(a∧8b∧2) =

= 15*9* a∧8b∧2 = 135*a∧8b∧2

We finally get numerical coefficient 135

Good luck!!!
