General Sibley, who had served in New Mexico at Fort Union prior to the Civil War, now took up arms as a Confederate soldier. Sibley went to Texas to recruit troops and raised 3000 Texas Rangers, who were experienced fighters, hardy, tough horsemen, and lawmen. Sibley moved his Confederate troops up the Rio Grande to Val Verde.Next Sibley moved up to Santa Fe and to Glorieta Pass.

He was mostly just another colonel caught in the war. His main role was invading New Mexico and securing it fr the Confederacy. He enjoyed his success alongside E.R.S Canby but was defeated after his supply train blew up and he was forced to retreat. Court-martial charges were not kind to him either. He was never going to lead men in battle ever again.
