Odysseus. Athena is scolding Odysseus for questioning whether the avengers can be put off. Odysseus is scolding Telemachus for questioning Athena's help. Odysseus is justifying his purifying the house with smoke.

This except belong to Odyssey, book 23, in the passage Penelope is speaking to the nurse confirming that the beggar is Odysseus the one who pass the test. This is the full excerpt "Dear old nurse," composed Penelope responded, "deep as you are, my friend, you'll find it hard to plumb the plans of the everlasting gods.
