Peoples get affected by the bite of fleas which have previously fed on <em>Yersinia</em> infected animals such as rat, mice, rabbit etc. It can be directly spread through by eating an <em>Yersinia </em>infected animals.

Peoples infected with plague generally showing flu-like symptoms such as fever, chill, headache, cough, weakness etc. Usually this begins 1-7 days after exposure.
