Why is it NOT a good practice to save everything on the desktop?

The reason why is because you might be in a middle of doing a 5 page essay and your computer might just shut down without you noticing. In that case probably you should use a flash drive to save all of your work instead of a computer and losing all of your work. I am not sure if that is the answer you are looking for but I hope this helps. :)

It could slow things down and if you have a program the program might erase some of your stuff. it cant erase from documents.

A Distributed Denial Of Service (DDOS) floods a computer with requests from multiple sources (hence the "Distributed"). A computer has only a limited number of parallel requests it can handle, and if regular users are denied access because the computer is fully occupied, the DDOS is successful. Even worse is that the victimized computer shuts down.
