This is showing that at one time there was most a son who most likely died at some point. When the son was alive she was the only daughter. And when you died she still was an only daughter.

navik [9.2K]
93 students play instruments. 30% is equivalent to 0.3 so when multiplied by 310,(the number of kids in the entire grade,) it becomes 93.

D) Fill in the blanks with a correct form, the PAST SIMPLE or the PAST CONTINUOUS:
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

1. He was talking with Mary, when Mrs. Smith came in.

2. They studied two hours last night.

3. Jane was sleeping when the telephone rang.

4. As I was walking to the lab, I met my friend.

5. We watched TV last night.

6. The customer was paying his cheque when he dropped his credit card.

7. The barber cut my hair yesterday.

8. She was dancing when she hurt her ankle.

9. It was raining hard when I got up.

10. It rained hard last night.

Explanation:

Past Simple or Past Indefinite:

This tense is usually used when the sentence has an adverb of past tense, e.g last ----- , yesterday, ago.

The sentences No. 2, 5, 7 and 10 all have adverbs of past tense i.e yesterday or last.

Past Continuous:

We use this tense when talking about some event of past, that was taking place or happening at that specific time.

We also use Past Continuous tense when some event was already taking place or in the process, and some other even took place at that time. However if some event had already taken place some other event in the past, we use Past Perfect. Since there is no option to use Past Perfect Tense in this question, we can safely use Past Continuous Tense in sentences No. 1, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9.

Let's examine the options.

a) the Greeks, unlike the Cyclops, value meeting each other

This is the indirect sense we get from the passage, based on the way the Greeks express disdain toward the Cyclops for not meeting each other. The Greeks say the "Cyclopes have...no meeting, no consultation or old tribal ways" after calling them "giants, louts, without a law to bless them" and saying they live in ignorance.

b) the Greeks shun meetings and consultation

From the way the passage condemns the Cyclops for having "no muster and no meeting, no consultation...", we can tell the Greeks shun not having meetings and consultation. This option is wrong.

c) the Greeks, unlike Cyclops, live alone in caves

Based on the text - "Cyclopes have no muster and no meeting,...each one dwells in his own mountain cave" - Cyclops, not Greeks, are the ones living in caves. This option is wrong.

d) the Cyclops have taught the Greeks the value of society

We get the sense the Cyclops themselves don't know the value of society - in fact, they shut the world out ("each one dwells in his own mountain cave"). They are called ignorant louts "indifferent to what others do". This option is wrong.
