I agree with the author position. As a scientist and a person who regularly read scientific publications, I can say that there is plenty of evidence to support the statement that the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) that are use in the food industry nowadays are safe and its use gives clear advantages over the use of traditional farming methodologies. It is wrongfully believe that GMOs are unsafe, as before any GMOs goes to the market, the companies that produces them must comply with very strict regulations.

Read the excerpt from the interview with E.Y. (Yip) Harburg.
ratelena [41]

Answer:

The correct answer is a. Like Harburg, many expected that they could maintain their possessions through the Depression.

Explanation:

E. Y. -Yip- Harburg was an American songwriter, known by working with many popular artists as well as movies; he is the author of Over the Rainbow, from The Wizard of Oz.

The correct answer is letter A since the excerpt could be divided in two different ideas: the first one describes the American dream, compared with the Rock of Gibraltar due to the idea of its strength; there are some other elements that reinforce this idea, such as the marble outside of houses and the though of permanence. The second idea is the last sentence, where everything vanishes into nothing by exploding. This way, it is understood that many people expected to keep their possessions, but it did not happen.

Which piece of evidence best supports the theme that power can corrupt people? "lowliness is young ambition's ladder, / Whereto
____ [38]

Answer:

"Scorning the base degrees / By which he did ascend"

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's tragedy play "Julius Caesar" tells how the title character was murdered for the 'safety of Rome and its people' by people close to him. The conspirators included Brutus and Cassius, who felt that Rome is better off without the over ambitious Caesar.

The lines "Scorning the base/ By which he did ascend" best supports the theme that power can corrupt people. These lines were spoken by Brutus in Act II scene i of the play where he's shown debating between his dilemma of participating and supporting the murder plan of Caesar or not. By these words, he meant to imply that once people are ambitious, they will do anything to get their goal, even humbling themselves. But, once they get their goal, they turned their backs on those who helped them achieve and tries to gain higher ground while despising and scorning those behind his success. This greed blinded him and let him see only things for himself. Thus is the same case for Caesar. Brutus opines that even though Caesar may be a good leader now, but once he gains more power and become king will be bad for Rome. Thus, the decision to kill him.
