Hi,

Which best explains Mathilde's misery at the start of "The Necklace"?

Madame Forestier never comes to visit her. (Incorrect)

Her husband is cruel to her. (FALSE)

She lives in total poverty and debt. (Nope)

She feels as if she deserves more than she has. (Correct)

The reason its D is because her husband works but dosent earn as much as he should. His wife thinks that she is and elegant wife and she thinks she needs everything and should deserve everything, which isn't true.

Which transitional phrase in the following sentence hints that Gracie did not express her ideas as clearly as she could have? At
julsineya [31]

Answer:

The correct answer is:

c. In other words

Explanation:

In other words, is a connector to explain about the ideas previously expressed in a clearer way, or to repeat the same idea using a different set of words. In this case it is possible to see that Gracie does not express the exact same idea in the two connected statements.

Read this excerpt from act III, scene I, of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet:
user100 [1]
The correct answer is A. Romeo blames falling in love with Juliet as the cause of Mercutio's death.

After Mercutio dies, Romeo says, "O sweet Juliet, Thy beauty hath made me effeminate And in my temper soften'd valour's steel." Here, he is saying that, because he fell in love with Juliet, he became weak. His love softened "valour's steel" -- or the brave metal of a sword -- making him unable to fight his enemy Tybalt.

The implication is that, had he not fallen in love with Juliet, he would have been strong enough to fight Tybalt and his friend would not have died. Therefore he blames falling in love with Juliet as the cause of his friend's death.

Is "fifty cents" a plural noun or singular noun? For example: "fifty cents ___ how much I owe you".
eduard
Fifty cents is a plural noun since it is talking about more than one cent. In the example, you would say, "fifty cents is how much I owe you".
