Answer:

i) 28 - 30i

ii) 36 + 28i

Step-by-step explanation:

i) x = 6 + i ⇒2x = 2(6 + i) = 12 + 2i

z = 4 - 8i ⇒ 4z = 4(4 - 8i) = 16 - 32i

2x + 4z = (12 + 2i) + (16 - 32i) = 28 - 30i

ii) w = -1 + 5i and z = 4 - 8i

w × z = (-1 + 5i)(4 - 8i) = -4 + 8i + 20i - 40i^{2}⇒collect like terms

w × z = -4 + 28i - 40i^{2}

∵ i^{2}=-1

∴w × z = -4 + 28i - 40(-1) = -4 + 28i + 40 = 36 + 28i

Find the sum of the first 90 terms of the sequence –4, –1, 2, 5, 8, ...
VashaNatasha [74]

Answer:

Answer: Sum of first 90 terms is Option d. 11655

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to find the sum of first 90 terms of the sequence -4,-1,2,5,8......

First we find the 90th term of the sequence

As we know the formula A(n)= A(1)+(n-1)d

Given from the sequence

A(1) = (-4)

n=90

d = 3

So A(n) = -4+(90-1)3

            = (-4)+89×3

            = 263

Now we know formula for the sum of any sequence is

Sum S(n) = \frac{n}{2}(A(1)+A(n))

Now we know n= 90

A(1) = -4

A(n) =263

Now we put the value in the formula

S(n)= \frac{90}{2}(-4+263)

     = 45×259

     = 11655

How do I solve this using distributive property?

(x+3)(x+7)
aleksandrvk [35]

Answer:

  x^2 +10x + 21

Step-by-step explanation:

You know the distributive property tells you ...

  a(b +c) = ab +ac

Here, you can let

  • a = (x+3),
  • b = x,
  • c = 7

and you get ...

     a  ( b + c ) =  a·b   +   a·c

  (x +3)(x +7) = (x +3)·x +(x +3)·7

Now, you can use the distributive property on each of those products:

  = x·x +3·x +x·7 +3·7

  = x^2 +10x + 21

_____

Alternate solution

This is perhaps more commonly done by separating the terms of the first factor first:

  (x +3)(x +7) = x(x +7) +3(x +7)

Then the next round looks like ...

  x^2 +7x +3x +21

In order, left to right, these terms are the products of First terms, Outer terms, Inner terms, and Last terms. The acronym FOIL is often used to help students remember these pairs of products.

The acronym FOIL is only useful when multiplying a pair of binomials.

For anything else, the distributive property is relatively easy to remember and apply. Each term in each factor is multiplied by the remaining factors. The process is repeated until there are no parentheses left. Then like terms can be collected.
