History

The industrial revolution impacted the environment. The world saw a major increase in population, along with an increase in living standards. This led to the depletion of natural resources. The use of chemicals and fuel in factories resulted in increased air and water pollution and an increased use of fossil fuels. With factories typically being heat based and burning coals, toxic waste would be built up and ultimately dumped into nearby rivers. Thus creating the pollution of water and air.

Which action is best described by this excerpt George washington
Bas_tet [7]

My party’s in power in the city, and it’s goin’ to undertake a lot of public improvements. Well, I’m tipped off, say, that they’re going to lay out a new park at a certain place. I see my opportunity and I take it. I go to that place and I buy up all the land I can in the neighborhood. Then the board of this or that makes its plan public, and there is a rush to get my land, which nobody cared particularly for before. Ain’t it perfectly honest to charge a good price and make a profit on my investment and foresight? Of course, it is. Well, that’s honest graft.

—George Washington Plunkitt, Plunkitt of Tammany Hall, 1905

Which action is best described by this excerpt?

Explanation:

From this excerpt, it can be deduced that "Political machines justified corruption while providing benefits to communities." This is because it is believed that Geroge Washington Plunkitt, a former New York senator probably through illegal means of getting the right information decided to buy lands where he's sure that the United States government will eventually want to use. Thereby selling the land to the government and making a huge amount as profit from the transaction.

Because it is not good for the states.

Explanation:

The national government was weaker than individual states because most of the power given to the states as compared to central government according to the articles of confederation. The reason for this act was that our founders feared that allotting too much power to the central government is not good for the states so that's why they made central government weaker than individual states.

What did the Civil war mean?
igomit [66]

Answer:

Explanation:

The Civil War in the United States began in 1861, after decades of simmering tensions between northern and southern states over slavery, states’ rights and westward expansion. The election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 caused seven southern states to secede and form the Confederate States of America; four more states soon joined them. The War Between the States, as the Civil War was also known, ended in Confederate surrender in 1865. The conflict was the costliest and deadliest war ever fought on American soil, with some 620,000 of 2.4 million soldiers killed, millions more injured and much of the South left in ruin.
