The slope of CD is -3. Bc if it was 3 as in the answer above, then the so called "parallel" lines would intersect.

A diver dives from the board at a local swimming pool. Her height, y, in metres, above the water in terms of her horizontal dist
Aneli [31]

Answer:

4 meters

Step-by-step explanation:

Given a quadratic equation in which the coefficient of x^2 is negative, the parabola opens up and has a maximum point. This maximum point occurs at the line of symmetry.

Since the divers height, y is modeled by the equation

y= -x^2 + 2x + 3

Step 1: Determine the equation of symmetry

In the equation above, a=-1, b=2, c=3

Equation of symmetry, x=-\dfrac{b}{2a}

x=-\dfrac{2}{2*-1}\\x=1

Step 2: Find the value of y at the point of symmetry

That is, we substitute x obtained above into the y and solve.

y(1)= -1^2 + 2(1) + 3=-1+2+3=4m

The maximum height of the diver is therefore 4 meters.

The ravens scored 13 more than three times number points that the bengals scored in their last game. If the ravens scored 40 poi
katrin2010 [14]

The score of Raven is 9 points

Solution:

Let the point scored by bangal be"x"

Score of Raven = 40 points

Given that,

The ravens scored 13 more than three times number points that the bangals scored in their last game

Score of raven = 13 + 3(score of bangal)

40 = 13 + 3x

Solve the above equation for x

3x = 40 - 13

3x = 27

x = 9

Thus the score of Raven is 9 points

Through (4,-4) ; perpendicular to 6y=x-12
BARSIC [14]

y = mx + b

m = slope and b = y-intercept

We can arrange 6y = x - 12 in the form of y = mx + b

                  6y = x - 12

                    y = 1/6(x) - 2

Slope of y = 1/6(x) - 2 is 1/6. Taking the negative reciprocal of the slope we get the slope for the perpendicular line.

Negative reciprocal of 1/6 is -6.

The equation for the perpendicular line is

                  y = -6x + b

To find b we can plug in the x and y values of (4,-4) into it since it passes through those coordinates

                -4 = -6(4) + b

                 b = -4 + 6(4)

                 b = -4 + 24

                 b = 20

So the equation for the perpendicular line is y = -6x + 20
