EXPLANATION
President Bush pointed that, 'the war on terror begins with Al Qaeda, but it does not end there'. The war versus terrorists won’t end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.
The September 11 attack was a series of four synchronized terrorist assault by the al-Qaeda Islamic terrorist group against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attack killed 2,977 people (not including 19 hijackers who were also killed, injured more than 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in damage to infrastructure and property. An additional person has died of 9/11 related to cancer and respiratory diseases in the months and years after the attack.
Four passenger planes operated by two major US passenger airlines (United Airlines and American Airlines) - all departing from airports in the northeast of the United States to San Francisco and Los Angeles - were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists. Two planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, each crashed into the North and South towers, from the World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan.
The debris and fires caused the collapse of some or all other buildings in the World Trade Center complex, including the 47-story World Trade Center tower with 7 floors, as well as significant damage to ten other large buildings in the vicinity. The third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, crashed into the Pentagon (U.S. Department of Defense headquarters) in Arlington County, Virginia, which caused the partial collapse of the west side of the building.
The fourth aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, was originally flown to Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers thwarted the hijackers. 9/11 was the single most deadly terrorist attack in human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement in US history, with 343 and 72 killed respectively.
