Gene regulation as mentioned already, is the process of turning genes on and off. In multicellular organisms, the different cells have the same DNA in them but through gene regulation, different sets of genes are expressed. The genes that are expressed determine the function and appearance of the cell.
Pesticides and fertilizers can harm public health and the environment. Many of pesticides contain toxic chemicals that can cause negative health effects such as neurological and cancer and reproductive disorders. Also pesticides can migrate into lakes and streams as they are swept away when it rains. On the other hand fertilizers do cause ground water contamination e.g Nitrogen fertilizers break down into nitrates and travel easily through the soil because of their solubility. this makes them stay in ground water for decades the addition of more nitrogen over the years has accumulative effect.
