On Nov. 7, 1917, Russia's Bolshevik Revolution took place as forces led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin<span> overthrew the provisional government of </span>Alexander Kerensky<span>. The provisional government came to power after the February Revolution resulted in the Russian monarchy being overthrown in March 1917</span>
The Russian Revolution overthrew the Tsarist autocracy, leading to the remergence of the Soviet Union. Emperor Nicholas II had to abdicate, bringing the Russian Empire to its collapse. He had been given the nickname Nicholas the Bloody because of the Bloody Sunday, the brutal suppression of the 1905 Russian Revolution. The revolution of February 1917 substituted the former regime with a provisional government.
