6x + 4 = 2x – 16

2) Next, you'll want to get the x's on one side. So add -2x to both sides.
6x + 4 + -2x = 2x + -2x - 16
4x + 4 = -16

3) Now subtract 4 from both sides
4x + 4 – 4 = -16 – 4
4x = -12

4) Finally, divide both sides by 4
4x/4 = -12/4
x = –3
