a. This excerpt emphasizes Regina's dismissive attitude toward her husband Horace. First, she speaks on Horace's behalf although he does not wish wish to speak to Ben; then Regina chooses to ignore the fact that he is tired and has him speak with Ben all the same. She has been making decisions on her own, behind his back, and now she is pressing him for time, although he is ill. She is merely using him in order to have her way.

What's the difference between accede and acquiesce, don't they mean the same thing?
Alex17521 [72]
Accede is a synonym of acquiesce.

Acquiesce is a synonym of accede.

As verbs the difference between acquiesce and accede is that acquiesce is to rest satisfied, or apparently satisfied, or to rest without opposition and discontent (usually implying previous opposition or discontent); to accept or consent by silence or by omitting to object; — followed by "in", sometimes also by "with" and "to" while accede is (archaic|intransitive) to approach; to arrive, to come forward.

Based on the excerpt given above, it can be inferred that:
She cares deeply for Jim, she is used to feeling short on money and she is happy in her relationship with Jim.
