The graph below represents the distance a pilot is from the home airport during a period of time. A graph titled Pilot's Distanc

e from Home. The horizontal axis shows time (hours) and the vertical axis shows distance (miles). Both axes are unnumbered. A line is shown in 3 sections, labeled I, II, and III. Sections I and III show a reduction in distance over time and section II is constant. Which describes the pilot’s distance in section I? zero constant decreasing increasing

What is the solution to the system of two equations shown?
Nadya [2.5K]

The solution of the given system of equation is x = -3 and y = 4 respectively.

<h3>What is a system of linear equations?</h3>

A system of linear equations can be defined as a number of equations needed to solve the equations. For n number of variables n number of equations are required.

The given system of equations is as,

y = 4x + 16                   (1)

y = −2x − 2                  (2)

In order to solve them, substitute equation (2) into (1) as follows,

4x + 16 = −2x − 2

=> 4x + 2x = -2 - 16

=> 6x = -18

=> x  = -3

Then, y = -2 × -3 - 2 = 4

Hence, the solution of the given system of equation is x = -3 and y = 4.

A coffee supply store waits until the orders for its special blend reach 100 pounds before making up a batch. Columbian coffee s
yan [13]
X - Columbian coffee ( in pounds),
y - Brazilian coffee ( in pounds );
x + y = 100
8.85 x + 3.85 y = 6.55 ( x + y )
----------------------------------------
x = 100 - y
8.85 ( 100 - y ) + 3.85 y = 6.55 * 100
855 - 8.55 y + 3.85 y = 655
- 5 y = - 230
y = ( - 230 ) : ( - 5 )
y = 46
x = 100 - 46
x = 54
Answer: 54 pounds of Columbian coffee and 46 pounds of Brazilian coffee should be used.

Marvin counts six $5 bills. write each value that he counts. what pattern do you see in the one digits of the values he counts?
spin [16.1K]
Answer: If the number of bills counted is odd, the ones digit is 5; if the number of bills is even, the ones digit is 0.

Explanation

1) Simulate the counting of the bills:

number of bills counted          value              ones digit

1                                             5                         5

2                                             5 + 5 = 10           0

3                                             10 + 5 = 15         5

4                                             15 + 5 = 20         0

5                                              20 + 5 = 25        5

6                                              25 + 5 = 30        0

2) Pattern: you can see that the ones digit alreternate: 5, 0, 5, 0, 5, 0, ...

If the number of bills counted is odd the ones digit is 5, if the number of bills is even the ones digit is 0.

Chase has 3 gallons of a solution that is 30% antifeeze that he wants to use to winterize his car. How much pure antifreeze shou
makvit [3.9K]

Let  x gallons be the amount of pure antifreeze that should be added to the 30% solution to produce a solution that is 65% antifreeze. Then the total amount of antifreeze solution will be x+3 gallons.

There are 30% of pure antifreeze in 3 gallons of solution, then

3 gallons - 100%,

a gallons - 30%,

where a gallons is the amount of pure antifreeze in given solution.

Mathematically,

\dfrac{3}{a}=\dfrac{100}{30},\\ \\a=\dfrac{3\cdot 30}{100}=0.9\ gallons.

Now in new solution there will be x+0.9 gallons of pure antefreeze.

x+3 gallons - 100%,

x+0.9 - 65%

or

\dfrac{x+3}{x+0.9}=\dfrac{100}{65},\\ \\65(x+3)=100(x+0.9),\\ \\65x+195=100x+90,\\ \\35x=105,\\ \\x=3\ gallons.

Answer: he should add 3 gallons of pure antifreeze.
